So, what are these unmissable events we speak of?
The enthusiastic buzz of the people of Manchester has not gone unnoticed. Spirits are higher than ever with restrictions eased and business operating as normal, which is why the penultimate months of 2021 will be bigger and better than ever. Whilst the rain trickles over Manchester, you can enjoy spirited theatre shows, an eclectic selection of concerts, festive celebrations and much more! Here is our overview of some of what’s to come:
Live Music Events
9 October: Erasure at O2 Apollo. The English electropop sensation is back on the block, celebrating the release of their 18th album – so, have a little respect and get yourself down to this superb event (see what we did there?).
11 October: Cliff Richard at The Bridgewater Hall. Fancy taking your nan out for a concert? Cliff is celebrating his firm position in the music industry after the release of 103 albums – this ‘Great 80 Tour’ is going to be a hit!
22 October: Kasabian at O2 Victoria Warehouse. Always a fantastic show to watch – Kasabian are playing an intimate show, performing all of their best hits and latest music.
1 November: Mimi Webb at The Deaf Institute. This breakthrough artist has had a fantastic year and is bringing her incredible music to a much-loved venue this November.
27 November: Joel Corry at Albert Hall. We have no doubt that this DJ will have the people of Manchester dancing ‘til morning with this show. End November on a high!
3 December: James + Happy Mondays at AO Arena. Name a better combination of artists – we’ll wait. This night promises hours of singing at the top of your lungs, smiles and laughter.
6 December: Tom Jones at AO Arena. The legend himself is back in Manchester, uniting the whole family to sing along all night long! This show is going to be a night to remember.
Theatre Shows
5-9 October: Heathers: The Musical at Palace Theatre Manchester. A stage adaptation of an ‘80s classic movie, nostalgic vibes will be as high as the performer’s beautiful voices. This performance will be epic, we’re sure of it!
19-24 October: Bedknobs and Broomsticks at Palace Theatre Manchester. Enter a world of magic and wonder with this stage version of a highly favoured Disney film. This is a musical you won’t want to miss!
25 Oct-13 Nov: Hairspray: The Musical at Palace Theatre Manchester. As far as musicals go, this one is difficult to beat. Dive into the ‘60s with this worldwide phenomenon of an unmissable show.
11 Dec-2 Jan: Aladdin at Opera House. Who doesn’t love a pantomime during the Christmas period? Aladdin brings his magic carpet to Manchester for a sensational performance this Winter.
Festivals and Special Events
13-17 October: Manchester Oktoberfest at First Street. Possibly one of the most joyous events of the year, Oktoberfest unites the region to celebrate German music, food and drink (sausage and beer – what’s not to love?).
8-17 October: Manchester Literature Festival at HOME. A festival to celebrate the most creative people amongst us, the literature festival connects talented writers from across the country.
6 November: Festival of the Dead at Bowlers Exhibition Centre. It would not be right to provide a guide of events and not identify the best Halloween activities! This will be a spooky event like no other – with musical performances, extravagant decor and spectacular circus performers.
Christmas Festivities
This year in Manchester – Santa is coming to town as Christmas is officially back on! We expect the festive events to be more exciting than ever before. Spirits will be high, mulled wine will flow and a large amount of pigs-in-blankets will be consumed. Here is what the people of Manchester and tourists have to look forward to this December:
12 Nov-22 Dec: Christmas Markets at Manchester City Centre. Manchester boasts the biggest and best Christmas market in the country and is the place to be during the festive season. The city centre is scattered with delicious food stalls, hot chocolate stations, art and craft stores and clothing shops. The sights, sounds and smells of the markets are unbeatable, creating an atmosphere that radiates happiness and joy.
22 November: Christmas Lights Switch On at Manchester Cathedral. This event has 1000s of locals flocking to the Cathedral in a bid to witness the famous switch-on of Christmas lights. Historically, reputable individuals have been known to get involved with this annual event. Due to the circumstances, this event may be structured slightly differently. However, this occurrence will undoubtedly be captivating – symbolising the start of Christmas.
